Combines an outpatient surgical implantation of an FDA-approved VNS device with in-clinic physical therapy and at-home rehabilitation exercises. During physical therapy, stimulation is paired with specific tasks to improve upper limb function. Suitable for chronic ischemic stroke survivors with persistent moderate to severe hand and arm impairment who have participated in physical therapy. Patients recover for one week after implantation before continuing in-clinic therapy. Surgery and rehabilitation are covered through most insurances.
