Vagus Nerve Stimulation for Stroke Rehabilitation

at Howe Kenneth L MD · New York

Details.

Combines an implanted vagus nerve stimulation device with in-clinic physical therapy to improve hand and arm function for chronic ischemic stroke survivors who continue to experience moderate to severe upper limb impairment after active rehabilitation. The device is implanted during an outpatient procedure, followed by a one-week recovery period and continued in-clinic therapy. At-home therapy can pair rehabilitation exercises and daily activities with magnet-activated stimulation. Surgery and rehabilitation are covered through most insurances. Consultation is available to determine whether this therapy is appropriate.
