Vagus Nerve Stimulation for Stroke Rehabilitation

at Dr. Donald B. Brown · New York

Details.

A neurostimulation treatment offered with in-clinic physical therapy to help eligible stroke survivors improve upper limb function. The VNS device is surgically implanted during an outpatient procedure, followed by physical therapy after a one-week recovery period. The therapy is intended for chronic ischemic stroke survivors who have participated in physical therapy but continue to experience moderate to severe hand and arm impairment. At-home therapy may pair rehabilitation exercises or routine activities with magnet-activated VNS. Surgery and rehabilitation are covered through most insurances.
