NHS urgent eye care appointments at participating optical practices for red or painful eyes or eyelids, recently occurring flashes or floaters, recent and sudden loss of vision, and foreign bodies in the eye. Appointments may be virtual by telephone or video, or face to face. The service is available to adults and children registered with a local GP in an area where the service is commissioned. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Urgent cases are assessed for an appointment within 24 hours. Please telephone a participating optical practice first. Bring your glasses and a list of current medication. This is not a sight test and does not cover major eye conditions being regularly monitored by an optometrist or hospital eye service.
