A procedure for high surgical risk patients with symptomatic valve deterioration after tissue mitral valve replacement. Access may be through the blood vessels in the groin or through the chest. The procedure uses trans-septal puncture to deliver and deploy an Edwards SAPIEN valve inside the failing surgical valve. Patient suitability is evaluated using investigations such as cardiac CT and echocardiography. The structural heart team remains in contact with the patient, family, and referring physician during the workup and hospital stay. Following the procedure, patients are closely monitored for one to two days, including a comprehensive echocardiogram within 24 hours to assess valve function and identify complications.
