Transcatheter Mitral Valve Replacement

at Yaakov Schechter · New York

Details.

A procedure for high surgical risk patients with symptomatic valve deterioration after tissue mitral valve replacement. The procedure may use access through the blood vessels of the groin or through the chest and avoids opening the chest wall, stopping the heart, and placing the patient on bypass. The structural heart team evaluates suitability using investigations such as cardiac CT and echocardiography, provides support during the workup and hospital stay, and monitors patients for one to two days after the procedure. A comprehensive echocardiogram is performed within 24 hours to assess the new mitral valve and rule out complications.
