Transcatheter Mitral Valve Replacement

at Dr. Rowan F. Walsh · New York

Details.

A catheter-based mitral valve replacement procedure for high surgical risk patients with symptomatic valve deterioration after tissue mitral valve replacement. The procedure may use access through blood vessels in the groin or through the chest and avoids opening the chest wall, stopping the heart, and using bypass. Evaluation includes cardiac CT and echocardiography to determine suitability. Patients are closely monitored for one to two days afterward, with a comprehensive echocardiogram within 24 hours to assess the new valve and check for complications.
