Transcatheter Mitral Valve Repair Using MitraClip

at Dr. Mia M. Gintoft, MD · New York

Details.

A less invasive mitral valve repair procedure for selected patients with severe mitral regurgitation, including patients at high risk for conventional heart surgery. The MitraClip device is implanted through a small incision in the groin to help the mitral valve leaflets close more effectively. Sophisticated imaging techniques, including three-dimensional transesophageal echocardiography, are used to assess candidacy and monitor progress. The procedure typically takes one to three hours, though it may take longer depending on case complexity.
