A less invasive mitral valve repair procedure in which a MitraClip device is implanted through a small incision in the groin to join the mitral valve leaflets and reduce leakage. Candidate selection uses sophisticated imaging techniques, including three-dimensional transesophageal echocardiography, and the procedure is intended for eligible patients with significant mitral regurgitation, including those at high risk for conventional heart surgery.
