A less invasive mitral valve repair procedure for selected patients with severe degenerative mitral regurgitation who are at high risk for conventional heart surgery. The procedure uses a MitraClip device to secure the mitral valve leaflets, is performed through a small incision in the groin, and typically takes one to three hours, although it may take longer depending on case complexity. Sophisticated imaging techniques, including three-dimensional transesophageal echocardiography, are used to select suitable candidates and monitor progress after implantation.
