Transcatheter Mitral Valve Repair Using MitraClip

at Dr. Richard E. Mackay · New York

Details.

A less invasive mitral valve repair procedure using a transcatheter-implanted MitraClip device to approximate the mitral valve leaflets and reduce leakage. The procedure is performed through a small incision in the groin and is intended for selected patients with severe degenerative mitral regurgitation who are at high risk for conventional heart surgery. Patient selection uses advanced imaging techniques, including three-dimensional transesophageal echocardiography, and the procedure typically takes one to three hours, although complex cases may take longer.
