A less invasive mitral valve repair procedure in which a MitraClip device is implanted through a small incision in the groin to help the mitral valve leaflets close more effectively. The procedure is intended for selected patients with severe degenerative mitral regurgitation who are at high risk for conventional heart surgery. Sophisticated imaging, including three-dimensional transesophageal echocardiography, is used to assess candidacy and monitor progress. The procedure typically takes one to three hours and may take longer depending on case complexity.
