A less invasive treatment for selected patients with severe degenerative mitral regurgitation who are at high risk for conventional heart surgery. The MitraClip device is implanted through a small incision in the groin to approximate the mitral valve leaflets. Advanced imaging techniques, including three-dimensional transesophageal echocardiography, are used to assess candidacy and monitor progress. The procedure typically takes one to three hours, although it may take longer depending on case complexity.
