The prosthodontist creates a bespoke oral appliance, also called a mandibular advancement splint, to fit the patient's individual needs. The appliance is a specially constructed mouthguard used to treat mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnoea. An overnight sleep study is usually conducted for diagnosis before treatment. It may take time to get used to the appliance, but patients do not usually experience discomfort.
