SMILE Eye Surgery

Details.

Small Incision Lenticule Extraction is a minimally invasive laser vision correction procedure for myopia and myopic astigmatism within FDA-approved parameters. The procedure uses a femtosecond laser to create and remove a lenticule through a small incision without creating a corneal flap. It typically takes a few minutes per eye, with numbing drops used for comfort. Candidates are generally at least 22 years old, have a stable prescription for at least one year, sufficient corneal tissue, and no active eye disease, infection, or keratoconus. A consultation includes corneal topography, pachymetry, and a full refractive evaluation. Patients should avoid rubbing their eyes, swimming, and wearing eye makeup during the initial recovery period as directed by their surgeon.
