Skin Cancer Screening

at Integrated Dermatology of Brookline · Brookline

Details.

Routine full-body visual skin inspection to look for potential signs of cancer in moles, spots, patches, growths, sores, lesions, and dark spots or streaks beneath the nails. The exam uses a special magnifying device and includes inspection of the scalp, between the toes, and the soles of the feet. If something suspicious is found, a quick biopsy may be performed for further examination. Most screenings require removing clothing and wearing a gown. Exams may take as little as 10 minutes for patients without a prior skin cancer diagnosis. Before the appointment, note concerning lesions and arrive with bare skin and nails, without nail polish, makeup, moisturizer, lotion, or sunscreen.
