A small sample of skin is removed and sent to a specialist laboratory for diagnosis. Usually performed onsite in the procedure room on the same day or at a soon-after appointment, under local anaesthetic. The area may be closed with a stitch or covered with a dressing, with written and verbal wound care instructions provided. Most patients can safely drive home afterwards.
