A well-tolerated procedure using ultrasound and sterile fluid to evaluate the uterus, uterine cavity, and ovaries. It may be used to investigate abnormal uterine bleeding, infertility, recurrent miscarriages, uterine structure, polyps, suspected scar tissue, fibroids, uterine septum, adhesions, and abnormalities found during a routine ultrasound. The procedure should not be performed during pregnancy or suspected pregnancy, or with an active pelvic infection. Mild cramping, spotting, and vaginal discharge may occur, and some patients experience cramping for several hours afterward. Ibuprofen, stronger pain medication, or antibiotics may be recommended before the procedure.
