A well-tolerated procedure using ultrasound and sterile fluid to evaluate the uterus, uterine cavity, endometrial lining, and ovaries. It may investigate abnormal uterine bleeding, infertility, recurrent miscarriages, congenital uterine abnormalities, polyps, suspected scar tissue, or abnormalities found during a routine ultrasound. SHG should not be performed during pregnancy or suspected pregnancy, or with an active pelvic infection. Mild cramping, spotting, and vaginal discharge may occur, and cramping can last for several hours afterward.
