A well-tolerated procedure using ultrasound and sterile fluid to evaluate the uterus, especially the shape of the uterine cavity, endometrial lining, and ovaries. Used to investigate abnormal uterine bleeding, infertility, recurrent miscarriages, congenital uterine abnormalities, polyps, suspected scar tissue, and abnormalities found during routine ultrasound. May cause mild cramping, spotting, or vaginal discharge. Not performed during pregnancy, suspected pregnancy, or active pelvic infection.
