A well-tolerated procedure using ultrasound and sterile fluid to evaluate the uterus, including the uterine cavity, uterine lining, and ovaries. Used to investigate abnormal uterine bleeding, infertility, recurrent miscarriages, congenital uterine abnormalities, polyps, suspected scar tissue, and abnormalities identified during routine ultrasound. SHG should not be performed during pregnancy or suspected pregnancy, or with an active pelvic infection. Mild cramping, spotting, and vaginal discharge may occur, and some women experience cramping for several hours afterward.
