A transvaginal procedure for treating vaginal vault prolapse. Performed under general anaesthetic, the vaginal top is suspended by suturing it to the sacrospinous ligament. Patients are examined beforehand to ensure the vagina is long enough for the procedure. The surgery may be combined with other vaginal wall repair or incontinence procedures. Delayed absorbable sutures are used. Antibiotics and blood thinning medications are usually provided. Most women stay in hospital for 2 to 3 days. Recovery guidance includes restricting activity for 4 weeks, avoiding heavy lifting and sexual activity for 6 weeks, and avoiding sport for 6 weeks.
