The procedure includes numbing the area with a local anesthetic, removing damaged or diseased pulp, cleaning and reshaping the area, filling the space with gutta-percha and adhesive to seal the root canal, and replacing the temporary filling with a permanent filling or crown. Treatment is intended to allow patients to resume normal activities such as chewing without pain.
