Surgical revision of a previously prosthetic hip, performed for normal implant wear many years after the initial placement or for dysfunction or issues with the hip prosthesis. The procedure is preceded by a rigorous diagnostic process assessing muscles, tendons, bone stock, prosthetic fixation, implant positioning and wear, the implanted prosthesis reference, and the initial surgical approach. Possible solutions include soft tissue or tendon intervention without implant modification, isolated replacement of one component, replacement of both acetabular and femoral components, replacement with osteosynthesis or metal reinforcement, and replacement with bone graft reconstruction.
