A suite of genetic tests performed on one or more embryos developed through IVF or ICSI before transfer. PGT assesses embryos for genetic abnormalities and may help identify embryos with a higher likelihood of implantation failure. Types include PGT-A for aneuploidies, PGT-M for monogenic conditions, and PGT-SR for structural rearrangements. A tiny biopsy is taken from the outer layer of placenta cells and assessed by geneticists at Genea Fertility. It may be suitable for people with recurrent miscarriages, a family history of a genetic condition, advanced maternal age, unsuccessful IVF, a known chromosomal rearrangement, or carrier status for a genetic disorder. There is an approximately 5% chance of accidental damage to the embryo during biopsy, and PGT is not 100% accurate.
