Cosmetic dental treatment using thin, custom-made porcelain shells fitted over the front of the teeth to improve colour, shape, position, gaps, chips, wear, staining and slight crookedness. The treatment usually requires two or three visits, including tooth preparation, shade matching, mould taking and fitting. Production takes two to three weeks. The tooth surface is prepared under local anaesthetic before the veneer is bonded in place. With care, veneers could last more than 10 years, possibly up to 20. Avoid biting hard foods and damaging habits such as nail-biting or chewing objects. A mouthguard may be needed for patients who grind their teeth during sleep.
