A glaucoma drainage implant procedure using a non-valved silicone aqueous shunt to drain fluid from inside the eye to the outside via an end plate beneath the conjunctiva. It is suitable for patients with previous unsuccessful glaucoma surgery, glaucoma that is difficult to control with medications, and secondary glaucoma, including uveitic, neovascular and traumatic glaucoma. The procedure is performed under anaesthetic and usually takes between 60 and 90 minutes. After surgery, the eye may feel blurred, uncomfortable and irritated for a few weeks. Anti-inflammatory and/or antibiotic eye drops are required, frequent check-ups are needed, and further surgery may be required for some patients.
