A small plastic oral appliance worn during sleep to help prevent the collapse of the tongue and soft tissues in the back of the throat, keeping the airway open and promoting adequate air intake. It may be used alone or with weight management, surgery, or CPAP. Severe obstructive sleep apnea is typically treated with CPAP instead.
