A podiatrist applies an individualised composite nail brace to reshape ingrown or involuted toenails and support natural nail growth. The process includes filing the nail, applying and curing a primer with an LED light for 30 seconds, applying the Onyfix composite and curing it for 60 seconds. The composite generally remains on the nail for 2 to 3 months, with further applications sometimes required. Treatment can take up to 12 months. Follow-up is generally at 6 weeks, 12 weeks and then every three months until the nail curvature has been adequately reduced. All nail polish, shellac and artificial nails must be removed before treatment.
