A custom-made partial crown made of composite material, gold, or tooth-colored porcelain. Onlays can conservatively repair teeth with large defective fillings or damage from decay or trauma, while removing less tooth structure than a crown. Treatment usually requires two appointments: impressions and a temporary restoration at the first appointment, followed by cementing and bite adjustments at the second appointment. Care instructions are provided after treatment.
