Also known as myocardial perfusion imaging, this procedure uses an intravenous radiotracer to capture images of blood flow through the heart before and after exercise or medication-induced stress. A nurse injects the radiotracer approximately 30 minutes before exercise or medication, and a special scanner takes images at rest and after stress. Tell the doctors if you are pregnant or think you may be pregnant. After the test, drink plenty of fluids to help wash out the dye, and notify your doctor if you plan to travel immediately afterward.
