Nasal obturators are made over 3 to 5 appointments. The maxillofacial prosthetist makes moulds of the nostril openings, fits the obturators, and checks their fit and comfort. A specialist speech therapist assesses changes to speech, and patients practise inserting and removing the obturators and learn how to care for them.
