Non-surgical botulinum toxin type A injections to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles, improve scar outcomes and, in some cases, treat excessive sweating or teeth grinding. Treatment follows an assessment of target areas and goals, skin preparation with a sterile solution and injection using sterile equipment. Common target areas include forehead and frown lines, crow's feet, lines around the mouth and lips, bunny lines, and the neck and jaw muscles. The treated skin may be slightly red, swollen or bruised immediately afterwards. Patients receive guidance on signs of infection or adverse reaction, and are advised to keep the skin clean and dry until healed, avoid harsh chemicals or perfumes, use regular moisturisation with a non-perfumed cream or ointment and use sun protection. Effects for excessive sweating can last 6-12 months, while results for lines and wrinkles generally last 3-4 months.
