Microneedling uses controlled micro-injuries to stimulate collagen production and improve skin texture and tone. A sterile preparation with skin growth factors is applied after treatment. Intended for depressed, textured acne scars. A course of three to six treatments is typically recommended at four to six week intervals. Not suitable for active acne, active herpes or skin infections, or a history of keloid scars. Do not undergo treatment while taking Accutane, and wait at least six months after stopping it. Prescription retinol is usually permitted, but should be stopped about five days before treatment. Expect redness similar to mild sunburn for 24 to 48 hours, possible light peeling around day three, and makeup is usually comfortable from the second day.
