Microdiscectomy

at Dr Jeffrey Brennan · Sydney

Details.

A minimally invasive procedure to decompress a spinal nerve compressed by a herniated disc or bony spurs. It involves a small incision, laminotomy, removal of the disc fragment or widening of the nerve channel, and use of an operating microscope and X-rays. Most patients stay one night in hospital. Recovery guidance includes approximately one week of light self-care at home, around one month of gradually increasing activity, return to desk work within one to two weeks, and delaying more physical work for four to six weeks.
