MRI creates pictures of organs inside the body to assist with medical evaluation. The examination may involve multiple scans, and contrast agent imaging may be used when required. Patients should inform the practice or radiologist about metallic implants, electronic devices, pregnancy or other relevant medical conditions. Unless given other instructions, patients may eat and take usual medications before the examination. Jewellery, watches, keys, hair pins, hearing aids, wallets, wigs, dentures and other accessories must be removed. Patients need to lie still during the scan. Ear plugs are provided, and occasional sedation may be required for patients who become claustrophobic. A radiologist reviews the images and reports the findings.
