Low dose CT scan of the chest through the National Lung Cancer Screening Program. Eligible patients must be aged 50 to 70, have no signs or symptoms of lung cancer, have a history of at least 30 pack-years of cigarette smoking, and still be smoking or have quit within the past 10 years. A GP imaging request is required. The scan takes around 15 minutes from start to finish, with the scanning process taking less than 30 seconds. No preparation is necessary. Images are reviewed by radiologists, with reports sent to the referring doctor within 3 working days and added to the National Cancer Screening Register. Bulk billed for eligible patients.
