Loop Recorder Implant Procedure

at Dr Idris Harding - Kent & London Cardiology · London

Details.

Implantable loop recorders are used to detect abnormal heart rhythms, including atrial fibrillation and causes of infrequent faints or drop attacks. The procedure involves local anaesthetic, a small incision of about 7 mm, insertion of the device under the skin to the left of the breastbone, and closure with a dissolvable stitch and dressing. The wound usually heals within 7 to 10 days. A cardiologist or cardiac electrophysiologist can help assess whether an implant is appropriate.
