Insertion of copper or hormonal IUDs, including Mirena and Kyleena, in a dedicated procedure room at OGCG. The procedure may be performed with or without local anaesthetic, with a practice nurse present to assist the doctor and provide support. Vaginal swabs may be taken to check for infection, and a Cervical Screening Test may be performed if due. Obtain a GP referral and send it to OGCG before booking. Simple painkillers may be recommended about an hour before the appointment, and Misoprostol may be prescribed 2 to 3 hours beforehand if required. Cramping and spotting may occur after insertion. Avoid intercourse and tampons for 48 hours following the procedure.
