Restorations used to rebuild a tooth that has lost significant structure due to decay or trauma. They are an alternative to crowning a tooth, generally requiring less tooth structure to be removed. Usually made from pressed ceramic using the e-max system, they are custom-made in a dental laboratory and cemented into place. Two appointments are necessary: preparation and impression at the first appointment, followed by fitting and permanent cementing at the second. A temporary restoration protects the tooth while the inlay or onlay is fabricated, which can take up to two weeks.
