A two-part diagnostic procedure involving hysteroscopy to inspect the uterine lining for abnormalities such as polyps, fibroids, adhesions or unusual thickening, and collection of a small endometrial tissue sample for specialist laboratory analysis. It may be recommended for abnormal uterine bleeding, fertility issues, ultrasound findings or post-coital bleeding. Small polyps or minor adhesions may sometimes be treated during the same procedure. Typically performed as a day-case under general anaesthesia, with the procedure usually taking 20 to 30 minutes. Recovery may include mild period-like cramping and light, watery discharge for a few days. A follow-up appointment is scheduled to discuss results, typically available within 7 to 14 days.
