at Varun G. Khedekar, OD · Boston

Details.

An outpatient X-ray procedure used to evaluate whether the fallopian tubes are open and whether the inside of the uterus is normal. The uterus is filled with iodine-containing contrast through a cannula while fluoroscopic images are taken. The procedure usually takes less than 5 minutes, may cause mild or moderate cramping for about 5 to 10 minutes, and patients can generally return to normal activities afterward.
