An outpatient x-ray procedure used to assess whether the fallopian tubes are open and whether the inside of the uterus is normal. The procedure involves placing a speculum and cannula, then injecting iodine-containing contrast into the uterus while fluoroscopic images are taken. It is usually performed after the menstrual period ends but before ovulation. Patients can generally return to normal activities immediately afterward, although some doctors recommend avoiding intercourse for a few days.
