Outpatient X-ray procedure used to determine whether the fallopian tubes are open and whether the inside of the uterus is normal. The procedure involves placing a speculum and cannula, then injecting iodine-containing contrast into the uterus while fluoroscopic images are taken. It is usually performed after the menstrual period ends but before ovulation, typically causes mild or moderate cramping, and usually allows an immediate return to normal activities.
