Hysterosalpingogram (HSG)

at Mina Sehizadeh, OD · Boston

Details.

An outpatient x-ray procedure used to assess whether the fallopian tubes are open and whether the inside of the uterus is normal. The procedure involves placing a speculum and cannula, then injecting iodine-containing contrast through the cervix while fluoroscopic images are taken. It usually takes less than 5 minutes. Mild or moderate uterine cramping may occur for 5 to 10 minutes, and patients may be advised to arrange a ride home and avoid intercourse for a few days.
