Monthly injections using medicines such as goserelin or leuprorelin to suppress oestrogen and progesterone, shrink fibroids by up to 50% and reduce heavy menstrual bleeding. Usually limited to 3 to 6 months. Sometimes used before surgery or uterine fibroid embolisation to reduce fibroid size, control bleeding and improve anaemia.
