A procedure to examine the upper gastrointestinal tract, including the oesophagus, stomach and duodenum. It can assess swallowing difficulties, nausea, vomiting, reflux, bleeding, indigestion, abdominal pain or chest pain, and support upper GI cancer screening. Small tissue samples can be taken for further analysis. Patients receive a mild sedative and pain medication, with a registered nurse assisting and an anaesthetist monitoring vital signs.
