An ultrasound-guided procedure using a very thin needle to collect a sample of cells from an area of concern. Local anaesthesia is used to minimise discomfort. The sample is analysed immediately by the on-site breast pathologist, who provides a provisional diagnosis on the day or suggests further biopsy if required.
