A liposculpture procedure designed to remove or diminish regional accumulations of fat that have been resistant to diet and exercise. The abnormal fat layer is permanently removed, although significant weight gain may cause the area to appear to re-accumulate. The procedure uses tumescent local anaesthesia and syringe suction under local anaesthetic alone. A comprehensive consultation, medical history and, if proceeding, planning photos are required. Pre-operative instructions include avoiding aspirin and NSAIDs, alcohol and smoking for specified periods, arranging transport home and overnight support, and bringing a liposculpture garment. Post-operative care includes prescribed antibiotics, wearing a garment or binder for 3 to 4 weeks, rest followed by moderate activity within 1 to 2 days, avoiding baths and swimming for 7 days, and follow-up appointments generally at 1 week and 4 weeks. Final results may not be evident until 6 months after surgery.
