Protects, probates, and administers estates of deceased Cook County residents and non-Illinois residents whose estates include assets in the county when no family member is available to serve as administrator or no executor was designated in a will. Services include arranging burial with the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office, protecting estate property, searching for assets, locating and contacting heirs, liquidating assets as appropriate, paying debts and taxes, and distributing inheritances. Estates are supervised by the Circuit Court of Cook County.
